Diversity on Sicily
While on holiday in Sicily there are also other islands you can visit that belong to the region of Sicily. For instance the Liparic Islands (often called the Eolic Islands) Ustica, Pantelleria, or the Egadic Islands or Pelagic Islands. The hills and landscape of Sicily are mostly created by the Etna volcano situated on the east side of the island. On the north side of Sicily you will find large green forests. For those who find all the sea around Sicily too intimidating there is Lago (Lake) Pergusa. So even on the island of Sicily you can have the choice between a lake or the sea!
Plenty of culture on Sicily
Sicily has got a lot of history and has had many different nations in the past as inhabitants. You’ll find evidence of this in the ruins on the island. There is for instance the Concordia temple in Agrigento together with other Greek treasures. Taormina has the disposal of a large Greek-Roman theatre. In Palermo, the capital of Sicily, you can visit the Dom of Montreale and the Cappella (chapel) Palatina, where the Vikings left their treasures. So there are plenty of places of interest to visit while on holiday on Sicily.
Sicily is also suitable for motoring holidays!
Because of the ferry it is also possible to go to Sicily by car. While having the use of your own transport you can plan day trips out at your own leisure. Sicily offers so many places of interest. If you prefer flying then that’s no problem because Sicily has got three airports to fly to. So there are many ways to reach the island of Sicily, the choice is yours.
