The history of Paris and the area around Paris
It is hard to imagine that when you are on holiday in and around Paris, that this area has got 12 million inhabitants. The heart of the city centre is called ‘Ile de la Cité’, which means the isle in the river Seine that the city was built on. If you want to explore the history of Paris and the area around Paris then you can start on this island. On Île de la Cité you’ll find three buildings all dated from the middle-ages. The Notre Dame Cathedral, the Royal Palace which later became prison the Conciergerie, and the Saint Chapelle. From both sides (left or right bank) you can reach the Île de la Cité via the many bridges. Here you’ll also find the oldest bridge of Paris the ‘Pont Neuf’.
Taste the atmosphere of Paris and her surroundings
The Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, the Sacré-Coeur, Louvre or the Champs-Élysées...these are just to name a few of the many places of interest that Paris has to offer. You don’t need to see everything in just one holiday to Paris because this is impossible, just a walk through the streets of Paris or the parks will give you a taste of Paris.
